The arrival of Olive plants from the Negev Desert in Israel to the Thar in Rajasthan, is a story written with the ink of grit on the pages of resilience. Ten years ago a progressive woman farmer, Satbiri Devi planted Olive saplings in her 40 acre farm near Phalodi. Today, more than 6000 Olive plants are a testament of her courage and unwavering tenacity. In 2021 the first batch of organic, extra virgin olive oil from the farm was produced. We serve guests with Mediterranean inspired lunch at the Olive farm. This alfresco lunch is a relaxed affair away from the complexities of a modern life. Guests can enjoy the verdant surroundings. Kheechan Visit
Demoiselle cranes get their name from the French word ‘damsel’. The phrase ‘damsel in distress’ is often used to protect a young woman and conjures notions of fragility. Demoiselle cranes may look fragile but they have an inner strength that lets them embark on one of the toughest migration journeys. Every September, these cranes take flight above 16,000 feet from Mongolia, crossing the mighty Himalayas and landing in a small village in Rajasthan – Kheechan. Locally known as ‘Kurja’ these birds are fed and looked after by the villagers who collect money to feed them tons of grains in the ‘Chuga Ghar’ or feeding point. Kheechan is also home to beautifully carved havelis, telling tales of merchants who were once part of the silk route.
